Charles Linden Flether, age 77, of Brooks ST, Greeneville, passed away at his home Saturday morning, January 16, 2010. The Funeral Service will be Tuesday, at 2:00 p.m. January 19, 2010 at Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church with interment to follow in Oak Grove Church Cemetery. The Rev. Rodney Bailey, Pastor Doyle Tunnell, and Pastor Billy Gragg will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday from 5-8 PM at Oak Grove Free will Baptist Church. Survivors include Two sons and one daughter-in-law: Joe and Gail Fletcher, Bobby Fletcher of Greeneville; Two daughters and two sons-in-law: Cheryl and Jack Shipley of Limestone, Sharon and Dennis Bowers of Greeneville; step sons: Wayne Hunt and wife Terri of Jonesborough and Andy Bennet and wife Ruth Annof Abington. Va; Grandchildren: Heather (Shipley) and Ken Walsh of St. Charles, IL, Garren and Barbara Shipley of Strasburg, VA; Luke Shipley of Knoxville, TN., Sarah (Fletcher) and Doug Roddy of Knoxville, TN, Boone Fletcher, , Candice (Fletcher) and Elliott GeFellers, Charity (Key) and Tom Henn, and DeAnna (Brown and Jimmy Morgan all of Greeneville; Great Grandchildren: D. J. Walsh, Ryan Walsh and Casey Walsh of St. Charles, IL, Gracie Shipley, Thomas Shipley of Strasburg, VA, Christian Henn, Callen Thomas Henn, Cory Morgan, Cody Morgan all of Greeneville; Several step grandchildren and step great grandchildren: brothers and sister-in-laws: Cordell and Betty Fletcher and Bueford and Jean Fletcher; Sisters and brothers-in-law : Christine Hayes, Oliva and Gene Bergenholtz of Moses Lake, WA, Ellen and Richard Kay of Tequsta, FL, sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Janie and Kyle Swinney, Ruby Fletcher, Fred Austin, Larry and Betty Cutshall; Several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mr. Fletcher was preceded in death by his wives: Marlene Lewis Fletcher and Dorothy Cutshall Fletcher; parents: Julia (Gunter) and William Alson Fletcher; Brothers: Carol Fletcher, Earl Fletcher, Carl Fletcher (infant); sisters: Maxine Collins, Joyce Austin, Bertie Fletcher (infant). Pallbearers will be Garren Shipley, Luke Shipley, Boone Fletcher, Elliott GeFellers, Jimmy Morgan, Tom Henn, Kenny Walsh, Doug Roddy. Honorary Pallbearers will be the Men’s Sunday School Class of Oak Grove Free will Baptist Church; Special Friends: Thelma Carpenter, Nell Wills, Marty Miles, Carson Cutshaw, Lewis Stroud, Daniel Broyles, Terry Hill, Pete and Shirley Heck, Dennis Isbell, Sam Brown of Rhode Island, Jim Hensley, and “All of his “back porch coffee friends”. Mr. Fletcher was a member of Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church and attended as long as his health permitted. He taught Sunday school for many years and sang in a church quartet and also in a quartet with his children. One noticeable thing when visiting his home was his open Bibles. Was always writing poems and songs which will be cherished by his children and grandchildren. His last Christmas gift to his family was a book of his poems. He loved flea markets, antiques, yard sales and woodworking, His children’s wish is that all children could have such a wonderful Christian father as an example. He was constantly wanting to do for others and always thinking of himself last. Mr. Fletcher retired from Fulflex (formerly George C. Moore Co.). Memorial contributions can be made to Oak Grove Free will Baptist Church in Tusculum or The Barnabas Connection c/o Rev. Rodney Bailey, 311 W Doe Street, Elizabethton, TN. The family feels that his wish would be that the gospel of Jesus Christ be spread through these contributions.
