Obituary:
J.H. “Junior" Gass, age 86, of Ottway Road, passed away Wednesday, March 3, 2010 at Life Care Center of Greeneville. The funeral service will be held Friday, March 5, 2010 at 7:00 PM in the Jeffers Funeral Chapel. Graveside Service 11:00 AM Saturday at Cross Anchor Cemetery. Rev. Donna Waddell will be officiating. Pallbearers will be Michael Gass, Jerry Brown, Johnny Gaby, Wayne Chapman, Tim Abshagen, David Jerome He is survived by his loving Wife of 64 yrs.: Irene Gass, Son and daughter-in-law:Lyle and Sandra Gass of Burns, TN, Daughter and son-in-law: Louise and Doug Wilson of Knoxville, 4 grandchildren and spouses: Amanda and Tim Abshagen, Erin and David Jerome all of Knoxville, Sara Wilson and Joe Franzen of Napperville, Ill, Michael and Kelly Gass of Burns, TN, 5 Great Grandchildren: Christopher, William, and Jonathan Gass, Tyler Abshagen and Drew Franzen Special niece and her husband: Margie and Jim Lister, Nephew and wife: Kyle and Linda Gass, Brother-in-law and Sisters-in-law: Eddie and Helen Malone, Martha Malone. He was the son of the late Harvey and Bessie Gass; Preceded in death by his brothers: Hurshel and Glen Gass; sisters: Sylvia and Lena Maude Gass; niece: Joyce Gass. Mr. Gass was a retired dairy farmer of the Ottway Community. He was a member of the Ottway Ruritan Club and was an avid member as long as his health permitted. His hobby of restoring antique tractors and showing them with friends, gave him many hours of enjoyment. Raising and caring for miniature horses brought many long days of hard work but enjoyable ones. He often said, “A farm is not a farm without animals on it.” He was a veteran of WWII serving in the Asiatic Pacific Theater from 1943-1945 working with the B-29 Bombers. The family will receive friends from 4-7:00 PM Friday preceding the funeral service at Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service. Family and Friends are asked to meet at 10 AM Saturday at Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service to go in procession to the graveside service. Greene County Honor Guard will conduct a military graveside service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Ottway Ruritan Club College Fund or the Ottway United Methodist Church Building Fund.
