Deborah Kay Daugherty, of Greeneville, passed away Friday, September 3, 2021 at Morristown-Hamblen Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was a member of Greeneville First Freewill Baptist Church. She loved gardening, her flowers, and vacationing with her family. She loved walking. She loved having her family in. She was a wonderful cook. She was a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She never met a stranger. \n \nShe was a graduate of Greeneville High School. She also worked for Ronnie Greer as his law administrative assistant at his private law firm, as well as a judicial assistant at the U.S. Federal Courthouse in Greeneville, TN for over 30 years until her retirement in August of 2017.\n \nShe is survived by her husband of 53 years: James; 2 daughters: Angel Morris and Tamara Britton (Jodie); grandchildren: Corey Britton (Mandi Laws), Lance Corporal Tyler Morris, Jessica Briggs (John), Kelsey Kinnaley (Ryan); 2 great-grandchildren: Jackson Britton & Greta Lee Britton; mother-in-law: Dorothy Daughtery; 2 brothers: Jimmy Dale Mathes I, Michael Jack Mathes (Jennifer); brothers-in-law & sister-in-law: Garry & Edna Franklin, Dennis & Joy Daugherty, and Wanda Bible; special Nieces & Nephews: James Dale Mathes II (Jennie), Travis Jacob Mathes (Heather), Ronald Franklin (Rhonda), Dennis Lynn Daugherty (Sherry), Jeffrey Daugherty (Kaylynn), Kelly Mathes Collins, Krystal Franklin Lawing (Teddy), Carmelita Blakely, Tonya Mattila, several other nieces and nephews; special friends: Bill Parks & Late wife June Parks, Melody Waits & Late husband Steve Waits; special cousin: Jamie Ailshie (Wayne), Jerry & Jan Mathes; and several special friends.\n \nShe was preceded in death by her parents: Dale & Lois Mathes; son: Jason Douglas; grandson: Austin Steven Morris; grandparents: Sanford & Eva Jacobs, and Webb & Stella Mathes; father-in-law: James A. Daugherty.\n \nThe family will have a Gathering of Friends on Saturday, September 25, 2021 from 2-4PM at Jeffers Funeral Chapel in Afton. The Celebration of Life will be at 4pm on September 25, 2021 at the Afton Chapel with the Rev. Larry McElory officiating.
