Dennis Hopson, 93, of the Afton Community went home to be with the Lord, Tuesday, October 11, 2022, peacefully in his sleep.\n\nDennis was the son of Bernie and Lena Hopson. He grew up in the Greystone area of Greene County. He drove the school bus while attending Greystone School. After graduation, he enlisted in the US Air Force, and served his country for 10 years. He married Joyce Humphrey, July 3, 1959 and started farming in the Milburton community. After retiring, he lived on the Erwin Highway, finally settling in Afton. He attended church at Fairview Cumberland Presbyterian Church. He loved his church and learning more about the Lord.\n\nHe is survived by a daughter: Lisa Hopson Tucker and husband Vestal; son: Stuart Hopson and wife Rachel; grandchildren: Rick Showman Jr, Travis Tucker Sr, Heather Reed, Lance Reed, Sean Hopson, Trevor Hopson, Alena Hopson, Roan Arrington; great grandsons: Bryson Reed, Travis Tucker Jr, Andrew Tucker; great granddaughter: Brynley Tucker; 3 Brothers Duard Hopson, Hugh Hopson, Gene and Betty Hopson, sister Bernice Waites, Special Friends: Mary Webster, Linda Morro, Naomi Long, Heather Carter, Robert Webster, Sandra Weems, Robin Stansberry, Rick Martin, Tommy & Sandra Collins, Amy Hinnen and many other friends and nieces and nephews.\n\nDennis was preceded in death by his wife: Joyce Hopson; children: Lana Reed & Ed Hopson; parents: Bernie & Lena Hopson; 2 brothers: Gordon and Raven Hopson.\n\nThe family will receive friends Friday 5-7 pm at Fairview CP Church. The funeral service will be held at 7 pm with Rev. Ronnie Duncan Rev. Tommy Collins officiating. The graveside will be held Saturday at 1 pm at Gethsemane cemetery with the Greene County Honor Guard conveying military honors.
