Donald "Don" Williams

–

Greeneville, Tennessee

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Donald "Don" Williams, who left us on Saturday, April 12.

He was a devoted father, an avid horseman, and a proud Air Force veteran.

Don was born on June 14, 1941, in Greeneville TN. He dedicated his life to serving his country during the Vietnam War, where he exemplified courage and commitment. After his service, he returned home to start a family, becoming a loving husband to Gerline (Jeri) Williams and father to six children: George, Lisa, Tim, Jeff, Amanda and Eric. His unwavering support and guidance shaped their lives, and his legacy will continue through them.

An avid horseman, Don found joy and solace in the company of horses. He spent countless hours riding and caring for them, sharing his passion with family and friends. He trained many horses and volunteered with the Knoxville Arabian horse association and horse rescue in East Tennessee. He was the epitome of Dr. Doolittle, rescuing and rehabilitating animals of all kinds.
Don was a talented musician, playing trumpet, guitar and mandolin, and sang in various productions. He played farm league baseball and was an avid Atlanta Braves Fan. He could fix or engineer anything and had a passion for MG sports cars. His photography from his travels during his time in the Air Force are still enjoyed by his family.

Don was not only a father but also a mentor and friend. He had an innate ability to connect with others, offering wisdom and a funny quip no matter the situation. His laughter was infectious, and his spirit will be missed by all who knew him. Don was always smiling and making someone laugh.

He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Gerline (Jeri) Williams and six children: George (Debbie) Dove, Lisa Johnson Neas, Walter Tim Johnson, Jeffrey (Janie) Dunbar, Amanda Williams Hensley and Donald Eric Williams, as well as grandchildren Joslyn Livingston, Lauren Dunbar, Deeanna Renee Rivera, Justin Dane Dove, and Megan Aileen Smith. He is also survived by his sister Jewell William Cuba of South Carolina, and many cherished friends and family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Audrey Williams as well as his two older brothers, Jerry and Jack Williams.

A memorial service to honor Don’s life will be held on Wednesday April 16 at 7pm Jeffers Funeral Service in downtown Greeneville TN, with visitation being 4-7pm. Friends and family are invited to come together to celebrate his life and share memories. A military committal service will be held Thursday morning at 11:00 at Greene Lawn Memory Gardens. Family and friends are asked to meet at the Jeffers downtown at 10:15a.m. to process to the cemetery.

Don will be remembered for his dedication to family, his love for horses, and his brave service to his country. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A special thank you to Caris Hospice, Silver Angels, Ashley Cole, and special friend,
Lynn Miller for the care they gave Don during his final weeks.

Rest in peace, Daddy.
