Dorothy Beryl Judd Smith, 97, of Greeneville, passed away Saturday, April 23, 2016 at Brookdale Assistive Living. Dorothy Beryl Judd Smith was the wife of the late Lynn Bird Smith, DDS. She came to the United States a New Zealand war bride, and lived for a short time with her in-laws Albert W. Smith and Monte Bird Smith of Greeneville, Tennessee while Lynn Smith finished his tour of duty in the U.S. Navy. She sailed over the Pacific Ocean in a U.S. Navy ship with her first born child, Kerry Judd Smith, now deceased. She is survived by: children: Dr. Brian Davis Smith and wife Carol, Sharon Kay Smith of Greeneville, David Albert Smith and wife Jeannine of Artesia, Mississippi; grandchildren: Rachel Smith, Alyssa Smith, Jared Smith, Mariah Smith Morgan, Kerry Smith; 2 great grandchildren: Aurilla Mae Morgan, Thomas Henry Morgan IV; several nieces and nephews; sister-in-law: Betty Jo Smathers; brother-in-law: Hal Dean Smith. She is preceded in death by: sons: Kerry Judd Smith and Dr. Kevin Stewart Smith; brother: Graham Moore Judd. Beryl Smith was beloved not only by her family but also by the congregants of Trinity United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday school for years for Beacon Light and Crusader's Class, as well as many of Dr. Smith's patients and those in the community who knew her to be gracious, kind, and loving. Beryl Smith was a gifted artist, talented pianist, and made many beautiful quilts that she shared with many. She was surely one of the "thousand points of light" that ex-President George Herbert Walker Bush once spoke of, a blessing to everyone she knew and she will be welcomed into the arms of Jesus our Lord as a good and faithful servant. She will sorely be missed here on Earth, but has surely become a bright and shining light in heaven. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 4-8 PM at Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service Downtown. The funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 AM in the chapel downtown.
