Greeneville, Tennessee
Garry Lee Morrison, age 74, of Greeneville, passed away unexpectedly on Sunday, July 7th, at Greeneville Community Hospital East after a short battle with liver cancer. Our family’s patriarch has gone home to be with the Lord. He stayed with us as long as he could, but these bodies are just not meant to last. We don’t know what we will do without him, but we can go on because he showed us how to live. He led by example and expected the best from everyone. He was our leader, protector, fixer of anything and everything, teacher, and friend. He was a faithful, loving husband, a fierce father, a fun father-in-law, a papa that loved to share his wisdom, and a loyal friend. We will miss his many, many, many stories, his wit and sarcasm, his support, his guidance, but most of all, his presence. We all must leave this earth and hand off the reins to the next generation. It was time for our leader to do just that, and behind him, he leaves a mighty legacy and his beloved farm, BoneTree. He did his job and prepared us well. We will forever be indebted to him for carrying this family on his shoulders for all these years. Lord, help us to carry on until it is our time to go, but for now, let's get back to the barn. Garry was born in Greeneville, TN, but grew up in Ft. Pierce, Florida. He attended Dan McCarty High School and Indian River Community College in Ft. Pierce. He then joined the military and was stationed in Korea for two years. After being honorably discharged from the Army, he moved back to Greeneville and attended ETSU, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. During this period, he met and married Fredna Seaton Morrison, the love of his life. He worked at Magnavox Company until 1987, then moved his family to Raleigh, NC, where he worked for Nortel Networks until he retired and returned to Greeneville in 2011. Preceding Garry in death were his father and mother, Willard Burke Morrison and Glenna (Peters) Morrison, his brother Danny Morrison, and an infant brother Roger Morrison. He is survived by his wife, Fredna Morrison of Greeneville, and daughters Kristie (Brad) Peacock and Jennifer (Eric) Forrest of Raleigh, NC. Also surviving are his grandchildren, Ayden Forrest, Grayson Peacock, Anna Peacock, and Tucker Forrest, all of Raleigh, NC. He is also survived by many cousins in the Morrison and Peters families. A celebration of life will be held at Jeffers Funeral Home, Afton, on Friday, July 12, 2024. Visitation will be from 5:00 – 7:00 pm, followed by the service led by Reverend Robert Johnson and Kevin Morrison.
