Gary Wayne Lawing age 72 of Afton passed away Thursday March 3, 2022 at Greeneville Community Hospital. He was a member of Gethsemane UM Church where he attended until his recent illness. He was an avid baseball and softball player throughout his youth and adulthood as long as his health permitted. He also loved hunting and fishing and enjoyed being in the mountains and living in this part of the country. He is survived by his 2 sons and daughter-in-law Brendon and Karen Lawing, Joshua Lawing, grandchildren Jake Lawing, Jesse Lawing, and Jaci Lawing, sisters and brother-in-law Brenda Jean Kilgore, Sandra and Larry Lowe, brothers and sisters-in-law Clifford and Sharon Lawing, Randall and Kathy Lawing, nieces and nephews Kim Lubrillo (Greg), Chris Kelley, Julianna Kelley (Trey), Jennifer McGeoy (Tucker), Chip Kilgore, Shauna Rivera, Brooke Patterson(Butch), Stacey Lawing (Katie), Justin Lawing (Ashley), several great nieces and nephews, uncle Reed Jennings, aunt Frankie Poud Cutshall, former wife Kathy Laws Lawing, special friend Jake Lawing's girlfriend Hannah Holt. He was preceded in death by his mother Shirley Jennings Lawing, father Carl Lawing, uncle Donald Jennings (who was raised as a brother with him), brother-in-law Stewart Kilgore, and many aunts and uncles on both the Lawing and Jennings side. The family will receive friends Sunday from 2-5pm at Jeffers Funeral Chapel, the funeral service will follow at 5pm in the funeral home chapel with Pastor Tracy Jones and Rev. Mark Laughlin officiating. Interment will be private in Gethsemane UM Cemetery. Following the service Sunday, family and friend's will gather at Sandra Lowe's Home. In Lieu of Flowers memorials maybe made to St Judes Childrens Hospital, Shriners Childrens Hospital, or Greeneville Shop With A Cop Program C/O Andrew Johnson Bank Debbie Shelton Main St Branch.
