Iris Perez Obituary (1956 - 2023) - Greeneville, Tennessee

Iris Margaret Perez passed away on Sunday, November 19, 2023, after a chronic illness and disability. Born in 1956 in Bronx, New York, she was the daughter of Thomas M. and Felicita Garcia Perez who left Puerto Rico and settled in Bronx, New York. Iris attended Bard College in New York and was employed as a teacher’s aide. She lived in New York, Florida, and finally in Greeneville, Tennessee to be closer to her brother. Her favorite activities were reading detective novels, listening to Salsa music, dancing in her earlier years, and last but not least, eating Puerto Rican food. She is survived by her brother Thomas J. Perez and his wife, Peggy of Johnson City. Two nephews, Thomas M. Perez of Daytona, Florida and Gabriel Perez of Johnson City, and a special cousin, Sonia Guzman of Copperas Cove, Texas. Iris was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Hernando Luis Perez. A very special thank you to the nurses, nurse’s aides, and staff at Lakebridge Nursing Home for taking loving care of Iris, to Mary Alice Bascone from St. Mary’s Catholic Church for spending time with and bringing Communion to Iris, and to Amedisys Home Health Care for helping Iris and her family through her final days.
