Jack Southerland, 65, passed away peacefully with his family be his side at Johnson City Medical Center on Monday, May 16, 2022. Jack was born on October 15, 1956, to Herbert and Louella Southerland. He was the third born of their seven children. \n\nJack was always a determined and hardworking man with a strong work ethic. Straight out of school, Jack went to work at Food City as a butcher. Then, in 1977 he went to work at Jerry's Meat Market. Eventually, Jack would go on to become owner and operator of what is now known as Snapps Ferry Packing. During this time, he built a wonderful reputation and became well known within the community as the kind and caring man that would do anything to help anyone. \n\nOn January 30, 1976, at the age of 19, Jack married the love of his life, Martha Dixon. Together they spent the next 46 years creating a beautiful life together. On January 24, 1978, they welcome their first born, Jason, and a few short years later, welcomed their second child, Jeremy, on July 3, 1982. Jack always made time for his boys and maintained an amazing relationship with them throughout their adulthood. When his boys started to build their families, Jack was ecstatic as he took on the new role as "Papaw". His six grandchildren became his world and his life once again consisted of ball games, school functions, and he even gracefully took on the ribbons, lace, and bows that came along with the girls. \n\n"I have fought a good fight,\nI have finished the race,\nI have kept the faith; henceforth, there is laid up for me the crown of righteousness."\n-Timothy 4:7-\n\nJack was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Louella Southerland; his older siblings: Kyle Southerland and Joanne Hice. \n\nHe is survived buy his wife, Martha; his sons and daughters-in-law: Jason and Sharee Southerland, and Jeremy and Christy Southerland; his grandchildren: Tavyn, Tralyn, Tatum, Jackson, Reece, and Hunter Southerland; his siblings: Danny Southerland, Patty Wills, Marsha Landers, and Jimmy Southerland; mother-in-law, Imogene Dixon; and sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Diane and Charles Morrison. \n\n\nWe know that we cannot have you and that we will miss you terribly, but we receive comfort in knowing that the angels have finally got you back. Goodbye to a Godly man that loved his family more than words could ever allow.”\n\nThe family will receive friends Thursday, May 19, 2022, at Jeffers Funeral Home Afton Chapel from 2 until 4 and 6 until 8. The funeral service will be Friday at 2pm at New Haven Church with Pastor Keith Williams officiating, the graveside will follow at Graceland Memorial Gardens. \n\n\nJeffers Funeral and Cremation Services are in charge of these arrangements.
