Thurman D. Jones, 84, of Afton, passed away on Sunday, April 23, 2017 at Johnson City Medical Center. He is survived by: wife of 62 years: Jane Jones; 3 sons and daughters-in-law: Doug and Shelly Jones of Nashville, Troy and Patsy Jones of Chuckey, Kyle and Janice Jones of Baileyton; daughter-in-law: Debra Jones of Delaware; 9 grandchildren: Clayton, Lydia, Sara, Edith, Thurman, Charity, Kristy, Amanda, and John; 10 great grandchildren; brothers and sisters-in-law: Elbert and Brenda Jones, Tom Jones, Bob and Brenda Jones; sisters: Phyllis Rupprecht and Linda Patterson; special cousins: Gordon and Mary Alice Jones, Bob and Joyce Jones, Fayetta Jones; several nieces, nephews, and cousins; special niece: Elaine Lentz. He is preceded in death by: son: Ernie Jones; father and stepmother: Troy and Edith Jones; mother: Addie Jones; uncle and aunt: Joe and Mary Jones with whom raised him; brother-in-law: Willie Patterson; special cousin: Dean Jones. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. He served during the Korean War with the U.S. Army. He is a retired auto mechanic. The family will receive friends and family on Friday from 5-8 PM at Jeffers Funeral and Cremation Service Downtown. The funeral service will be held on Saturday at 11 AM in the chapel downtown, with Pastor Oscar McAmis officiating. The Greene County Honor Guard will conduct a military graveside service at Hardin's Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers are Troy Jones, Thurman Jones, John Tester, Clayton Jones, William Patterson, Patrick Nuss, Corey Sims. Memorial contributions may be made to Hardin's Chapel Cemetery Fund.
