Winona Tilson Buckles, 94, of Kingsport, TN, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2019 at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Kingsport.\n \n“Nona” as she was known, was a loving mother and grandmother. She had enjoyed painting, and was a very avid reader. She attended Colonial Heights UM Church, and retired from Kingsport City Schools, where she was a library assistant. She was also an active member of the Ruth Circle and the Upper Crust group at the church.\n \nShe is survived by her sons: Stephen C. Buckles and his wife, Alice of Kingsport, Sam Buckles of Cartersville, GA; granddaughters: Dr. Jonnie Wells and her husband, Will Wells of Palm Coast, FL, Dr. Bonnie Buckles, Captain US AirForce; Rachel Buckles of Kingsport, Annie Buckles of Ashland, OR; great-grandchildren: James and Katie Wells of FL; numerous nieces and nephews.\n \nShe was preceded in death by her husband: William C. Buckles; son: James F. Wills; parents: C.E. and Bonnie Tilson; brothers: Homer Tilson, Jack Tilson, Tommy Tilson, and George Tilson; sisters: Wanda Williams, Charlotte Turner, Juanita Gibson, and Barbara Stroud.\n \nThe family wishes to thank the staffs of Suncrest Hospice, Elmcroft Assisted Living, In-Home Care Services and Cindi Wilbank for their loving and compassionate care.\n \nThe family will receive friends Tuesday, December 17, 2019 from 4-6PM at Jeffers Funeral Chapel at Afton. The funeral service will follow visitation in the funeral home chapel with Rev. Chris Brown.
